SoccerAnchor's Daniel Quinn looks at who performed well and didn’t between Portugal and Spain in the first semi-final, as Spain booked their place in the final, after defeating Portugal 4-2 on penalties…..

PORTUGAL

Rui Patricio – 6.5/10

Didn’t have much to do in goals for Portugal, but when called upon did make a couple good saves to deny Jesus Navas and Andreas Iniesta. Did save Xabi Alonso’s penalty, but couldn’t do anything with the others, as they were expertly taken.

Joao Pereira - 6/10

Had a good game at right-back, but did get a yellow card for dragging, which was very cynical. Defensively got in good positions and pushed on the right flank.

Pepe- 6/10

Had a good game, like his follow defenders, but was also booked for a harsh challenge. Was dominate in the air, and also slotted a nice penalty into the side netting.

Bruno Alves – 5.5/10

Like his follow defenders, was booked and had a good game. Dominated in the air and made some good clearances, but smashed his penalty against the crossbar to give Cesc Fabregas a chance to send Spain through, which is exactly what happened.

Fabio Coentrao - 6/10

Continued his consistent form, with some hard work down the left, threatened and did well defensively. But was booked after saying something he shouldn’t have to the assistant referee.

Miguel Veloso – 5/10

Had a poor game, where delivery from set-pieces was dismal, but did work his socks off pressuring the Spanish midfield.

Joao Moutinho – 6/10

Like Veloso, had a poor game missed a penalty which didn’t test Iker Casillas, but also his passing let him down.

Raul Meireles - 6/10

Worked his socks off with his other midfielders, but didn’t do much else, and was substituted due to tiredness.

Nani – 6.5/10

Had a good game, played some nice balls into the box, made some good runs, but did take time to come into the game. Also dispatched an emphatic penalty into the top corner.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 6.5/10

The Portugal Skipper was up to his lively self, but his set-pieces were uncharacteristically poor. Free-kicks were hit over or were simply hit into the wall, which is a cardinal sin in the dead-ball game.

Huge Almeida – 6/10

Despite a slow start, did come alive in the second-half, but wasted a couple chances, mainly due to making the wrong decision. Should have passed or crossed on a couple times, but shot himself. Was substituted, but did put in a good effort.

Substitutes:

Nelson Oliveira- 5/10

Come on with about ten minutes left of the 90, but pretty much, did nothing.

Custodio- N/A

Come on at half-time of extra-time to no avail, just to put some fresh legs in midfield.

Silvestre Varela- N/A

Come on late, so couldn’t get involved.

SPAIN

Iker Casillas – 6.5/10

Had a good game, dealt with crosses into the box, made a couple saves, before denying Moutinho in the shootout.

Gerard Pique - 6/10

Was solid at the back with Sergio Ramos, didn’t really put a foot wrong, but Portugal at times didn’t threaten.

Sergio Ramos – 6/10

Like Pique, was solid at the back, but did get booked for a body check on Ronaldo and also got into some trouble for chesting the ball inside his own box, but got away with it.

Alvaro Arbeloa – 5.5/10

Didn’t have the best of games once again, as Ronaldo caused the ex-Liverpool man some problems. Was also booked, but did get stuck in.

Jordi Alba – 6.5/10

Did well pushing forward on the left wing from fullback, linked up well with Andreas Iniesta and got a couple good balls into the box, but was in the wars too after suffering some tough challenges.

Xavi – 6/10

Wasn’t involved as much as he normally would, didn’t play at his high expectations, and thus was substituted.

Sergio Busquets – 6/10

Wasn’t really involved much, but did a decent job in shielding the back four, did waste time with some theatrics, which is not good to watch.

Xabi Alonso – 5.5/10

Like Xavi, didn’t play to his high expectations like in recent games, also was booked and missed a penalty, but that was saved fantastically.

Andreas Iniesta - 6/10

Had a decent game making some nice passes, linking up well, and had a couple efforts onto goal, but did go missing for a while.

David Silva – 6/10

Likes Iniesta, was involved a little bit, but disappeared during the game, and was then substituted.

Alvaro Negredo – 5.5/10

Was the surprise selection up front instead of Cesc Fabregas or Fernando Torres and it turned out to be poor and risking decision by Vicente Del Bosque. Negredo didn’t do much, other than some good hold up play.

Substitutes:

Jesus Navas – 6.5/10

Was lively off the bench adding width and also got a shot onto goal which was much needed, but Patricio made a good low save.

Cesc Fabregas – 7/10

Scored the winning penalty after coming on early in the second-half. Other than that, did take a couple pot shots at goal, but the important thing was, he was involved, unlike Negredo who he replaced.

Pedro Rodriquez – 6/10

Come on late in normal time, but couldn’t really do any damage, but did add the much needed width with Navas.
