Perth Glory manager Ian Ferguson has warned his side not to take Wellington Phoenix lightly despite the ease of their A-League elimination final victory versus Melbourne Heart. Ferguson told footballaustralia.com.au that despite the fact his team won easily, Perth would have to improve on their performance against Heart to knock out the Phoenix. “(Heart) sat back and tried to hit us on the counter attack but I'm sure (Wellington) will be totally different.” “Our plan was to not let their good players play and get on the ball and squeeze them tightly. We did a very good job of that. But on the other side we didn't create as many chances as I wanted us to,” Ferguson said. The Scotsman believes the team wasn't settled with a number of players returning from injury against Heart. “That (poor performance) could've been down to three or four players coming back from injury. Now they've got a week under their belts at training and also had a good game under their belts,” Ferguson said. “I'm expecting we'll be a lot more fluent this week.” Perth host the Phoenix on Saturday evening in a elimination final with the winner playing the loser of the Brisbane Roar – Central Coast Mariners tie. |
