Veteran Socceroo striker Josh Kennedy has spoken of his excitement in representing the green and gold at the upcoming Asian World Cup qualifiers. Kennedy told footballaustralia.com.au that he was particularly looking forward to the encounters against Japan. "The fact that I play my club football in Japan [makes it exciting]. We have such a good rivalry with Australia and Japan the last few years and World Cups and it’s definitely a special occasion.” The Australian target man played for Japanese side Nagoya Grampus last night in their 1-1 Asian Champions League battle at A-League side Central Coast Mariners. Kennedy spoke about the thrill he gets playing on home soil in both continental and international competitions. "I think the fact that I get to come back and play in front of Aussie fans will make it a special occasion. Obviously most of my career I have been overseas so I get the chance to come home in front of friends and family and home fans that’s a big buzz." Kennedy also issued a rallying call for fans to support the Socceroos, with tickets now on sale to the first qualifier against Japan in Brisbane on June 12. "Come down support us. We’d love to have you at the game and we’ll do everything to get the three points and make our way to the World Cup." |
