'Francesco Totti is the greatest player in the club's history' - Roma celebrate captain's 35th birthday

Roma have described Francesco Totti as the greatest player in the history of the club with a note on their official website to celebrate the player's birthday.

Totti has come a long way since making his debut for the club as a 16-year-old in 1993.

The former Italy international, who won the World Cup in 2006, helped his side win the Scudetto in 2001 and two Coppa Italias in 2007 and 2008.

A statement on Roma's website reads:

"The best wishes to Francesco Totti. The 27th September is the date of his birth and this day is a celebration for all of Roma.

"In fact Francesco is not just the symbol of this club, he is also one of the greatest player's in the history of Italian football.

"Without a doubt he is the greatest player in the history of this club and for this reason we wish him the very best, hoping to see him continue at Roma for a long time."

Roma are currently 12th in Serie A following their weekend win over Parma.
